Circa 1860
A breathtaking mid-Victorian shell cameo brooch, expertly hand-carved circa 1860. This piece depicts the classical personification of Day—often identified as Hemera or Eos (Aurora)—rendered with delicate, luminous detail.
The central oval cameo portrays the goddess in profile, crowned with rising sunbeams behind her head. In front of her perches an eagle or torch/attribute, its outspread wings curving elegantly along the base of the scene.
The cameo is bezel-set within a warm 9ct rose gold frame featuring flared, scrolling side wings entirely decorated with fine, foliate hand-engraving. The gentle contrast between the warm peachy-tan ground of the carved shell and the antique rose gold setting makes this an exceptional, highly wearable collector's piece.
Length 45mm and width 25mm
