A rare and highly charming Victorian “ADORE” brooch, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1896, and beautifully crafted in rich antique gold. This sentimental jewel is a wonderful example of late 19th-century romantic jewellery, combining symbolism, colour, and fine workmanship.
The brooch spells A-D-O-R-E using the first letters of the gemstones set across the centre:
Amethyst
Diamond
Opal
Ruby
Emerald
Each stone is star-set within an elongated oval plaque, framed by an Etruscan rope-twist and beadwork border typical of the Victorian era. The vibrant gemstones contrast beautifully against the warm gold, making this piece both eye-catching and meaningful.
To the reverse, the brooch features a working locket back, allowing a treasured photograph or memento to be kept close — a deeply romantic and personal touch so characteristic of Victorian jewellery. It retains its original style pin fitting and is clearly hallmarked, confirming its authenticity and date.
