Antique 15ct Gold, Large Early Victorian Opal & Diamond Floral Pendant
Antique Floral Pendant
15ct Gold Stamped
Circa 1870
A striking statement of Victorian romanticism, this antique pendant dates to circa 1870. Modeled in an openwork pinwheel floral motif, the design features five curling scrolled petals set in silver-topped 15ct gold—the quintessential setting technique of the era designed to enhance the brilliance of diamonds by candlelight.
At the center rests a brilliant old-cut natural diamond, encircled by five vibrant natural round cabochon opals that radiate vivid neon flashes of emerald green, electric blue, and fiery orange. Each curving scroll petal is accented by antique-cut diamonds that frame the opals and taper elegantly along the flourishes.
The contrast between the dark, romantic patina of the silver-set face and the warm 15ct gold backing gives this piece incredible antique character and dimension. Fitted with a generous 15ct gold suspension bail at the top, it slides easily onto an antique chain or ribbon.
The pendant measures approximately 31.7mm in height and 27.7mm in width. The centre diamond measures approximately 4mm in diameter and the opals 3.6mm in diameter each.
*The chain is sold separately
